Day 212: April 4, 2008

In the picture, some of that water drains from the mouth of a cave we like. It's usually just a hole in the side of a hill. Unfortunately, we didn't have the camera when we stopped at the house in the early afternoon, so you can't see Lake Garrison, aka our back yard.

It was errand day. First, though, Bud and I sat around the house for three hours waiting to take delivery of the last of our lighting fixtures.

After they finally arrived, we returned our sample boards to the tile store for what we hope will be the final time. And then we stopped by a stone yard to look over possibilities for the top of the island in the walk-in closet.

Day 211: April 3, 2008

A drywall-sanding, bookshelf-building, headache-having Thursday.

Happy 15th anniversary, Laura and Louis!

Day 210: April 2, 2008

Bud and I met with the closet designer this afternoon. Although the estimate was on the high end of what we expected, it was still a little shocking. We definitely need the storage space, so we'll certainly have to do something. The question is how much.

Laura and Lance stopped by the office this morning, so I got to visit with them -- mostly Lance. He's so good-natured and adorable!

Bud's mowing for the first time this year. I think I'm headed for the treadmill.

They also cut the holes for Bud's in-ceiling speakers. And the drywall subcontractor continued mudwork.

Day 208: March 31, 2008

Bud picked up the stone we'll be using for the fireplace facade this morning. (I think I forgot to mention that we chose and ordered it one day last week.)

You can see our choice here with a little work. Click Stones, then Ledgestone, then Pennsylvania. It's not as blue as I had hoped, but I'm beginning to wonder if stone actually exists in the colors I prefer.

Bud also made progress in the garage. But that was the only progress. The drywall mud was still wet, so no one else worked at the house.

Days 206-207: March 29-30, 2008

Saturday brought another furniture-moving extravaganza. Lamps, tables and boxes don't go with stairs either. In addition, I cleaned out a very deep and narrow closet that was filled primarily with wrapping paper and ribbon. And I do mean filled.

But now I think we can say every single thing is out of the house.

On Sunday, Bud worked in the garage. I think I napped more than I was awake. Maybe I was recovering from all that stair-climbing, but I actually think I was some sort of sick. By late Sunday night, I was sick to my stomach and wishing I could skip work Monday.

Day 205: March 28, 2008

Today at work, we had a farewell lunch for our circulation manager, who was retiring after more than 20 years in various positions in our office.

I'll miss her wit, her attention to detail, her boundless knowledge of local history. Someone new can take her title, but no one will ever replace Mattie.

I waited to post, thinking I would include the picture of our staff at the restaurant, but I never got access to the color version, so you're out of luck after all.
